Meeting
Last week I had my first interview with Greg Brownderville from SMU. He provided me with some great advice about writing, including notes about the process and the environment. I had always struggled with Writer's Block because I always found myself trying to perfect everything I was writing. He told me that all that matters is you have a first draft that exists, whether it be perfectly written or not, because there's always revisions to be done later on when it comes to the next drafts.
I think that one of the biggest goals for me is to learn how to just write rather than strive for perfection. Even though it has always been such an overarching theme in my writing, I want to learn to focus more on the plot of my book as opposed to the vocabulary. I think expanding my vocabulary is important as well, however, when it comes to revision. Ultimately what I care the most about moving forward is what my book sounds like and how much sense the plot makes. If the plot is intriguing and makes sense, that is what is most important in writing because it offers a work that someone will want to read. I'm excited to keep having research interviews and to learn more about my field of study.
